Official grading scale
Marks-to-grade conversion follows the GPA-5.00 scale used for SSC, HSC, and equivalent public exams in Bangladesh, in effect since 2003 and unchanged as of 2026. The minimum pass mark per subject is 33%.
| Marks | Grade | Grade point |
|---|---|---|
| 80–100 | A+ | 5.00 |
| 70–79 | A | 4.00 |
| 60–69 | A- | 3.50 |
| 50–59 | B | 3.00 |
| 40–49 | C | 2.00 |
| 33–39 | D | 1.00 |
| 0–32 | F | 0.00 |
4th subject rule
The 4th (additional/optional) subject does not count as a normal subject in the average. Instead, if its grade point is above 2.00 (grade C), the excess (grade point minus 2.00) is added as a bonus to the sum of the 6 compulsory subjects’ grade points before dividing by 6. A grade of C or below in the 4th subject adds no bonus and does not cause a fail.
Official source
This grading scale and the 4th-subject bonus rule are the standard NCTB/Education Board grading rules applied across SSC and HSC results - see the Secondary School Certificate (Bangladesh) grading reference and the official Education Board Results portal. FAQ
What is the minimum pass mark for HSC?
33% (grade D) in each compulsory subject. Marks below 33% result in an F grade, which fails the overall result.
Does a low 4th-subject mark fail my HSC result?
No. A 4th-subject fail only forfeits its bonus points - it does not fail your overall result the way a compulsory-subject fail does.
